The Labour Ministry has decided to extend the deadline for migrant worker verification to June 29.
As reported by Thai PBS, out of a total of 1.6 million of foreign migrant workers from Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia who have registered with the Labour Ministry, only about 200,000 of them have so far had their nationalities verified.
A spokesperson from the Labour Ministry blamed Thai officials and migrants’ lack of proper documentation, whilst a representative of the Foreign Migrant Workers Network said the verification program wasn’t equipped to face the realities of migrant workers being spread out across the country.
